The one with a muse and a big old dirty diaper
I believe that stereotypically muses and big old dirty diapers rarely find themselves associated with one another. I could be very wrong about this but I often think of fairies, angels and Tinkerbell-like creatures when I think of muses and I bet most people think the same way. I imagine a sweet sounding voice in your head that speaks so intelligently and thoughtfully, giving you idea after idea, when I think of a muse. On the other hand, I don’t think there’s really much imagination that can be applied to the thought of a big old dirty diaper. So how do they relate to one another in this post? Well, they don’t, really.
Yesterday did mark a very large and important milestone in my quest for a muse. I finally uploaded my first iPhone application to the app store. I believe it is still awaiting approval. The entire experience proved “interesting” to say the least. I really enjoy programming for the iPhone. I find that as a software engineer your brain must take on many different “stances in life” for lack of a better description. When programming an Object Oriented application designed for install and use on a typical client machine you must think one way. When writing code for an ASP.NET website your brain must think another way. iPhone application programming requires yet another mindset. I enjoy this challenge. I think in many situations the mindset required to do a particular job changes very little from day to day. For example, if you make pizzas for a living you probably don’t have to change hats too often, migrating from one way of thinking to another. Being forced to change the way I look each of my coding projects keeps me on my toes. So anyway, the application I uploaded is a very basic tip calculator but the intent of this application was to simply experience the entire iPhone app lifecycle. Now that I’ve accomplished that, I’m ready to really dig in, figure out what the iPhone SDK really offers and go from there.
As for the big old dirty diaper … well that brings me back to my college days … or maybe slightly after … I can’t be sure. Anyway, my college roommate pointed out to me one day, in a very matter-of-fact way, that the name Super Duty reminded her not of a big powerful truck but rather a big old dirty diaper. Since that day, I never fail to think of a big old dirty diaper when I hear the words “Super Duty”. You know, one of those diapers that is so heavy with disgustingness that it literally hangs off the backside of a small child. It’s one of those pictures I hope to never encounter in real life. Anyway, I’ve often thought to myself, “Good thing I’ll never own one.” I’m not a truck kinda girl. Well, I wasn’t before today. In true ironic fashion, the Universe has brought a Super Duty into my life. It’s a nice 2003, black, Ford F350, Lariat, long bed, crew cab, Super Duty. I have no idea if those adjectives are correct - I’ve never been a truck girl (as mentioned previously) and so I’ve always viewed trucks as being small, medium, pretty big and semi. That’s it. No cab size. No bed size. Just small, medium, pretty big and semi. Unfortunately, our Pilot cannot pull a 5th wheel. This fact makes me very very sad because I am absolutely in love with the Pilot. I really loved the Mustang and the Pilot comes really close to Mustang status. It’s so perfect for us, however, our life is changing and so I think I have to accept the fact that the Pilot may be perfect for Section 1 but maybe not for Section 2. So, we hired our trusty car buyer, Ron (EVERYONE should have a car buyer - I can’t even begin to tell you how worth the money he is!!!!) to start a search for a truck that could pull a 5th wheel. We like Fords because they can pull more weight than any other make of truck in the same class. We also like the idea of a dully because those with 5th wheel experience always seem to agree that the extra traction and stability is well worth the money. Ron came through. He found a very nice, used Super Duty that will do just the trick. Driving such a huge hunk of metal will take a bit of getting used to but the upside is that every single time I look at the Super Duty I’ll think of my buddy back home and her weird sense of humor … and probably a big old dirty diaper.
So there’s the correlation between a muse and a big old dirty diaper. Not a direct correlation, I agree, but a correlation nonetheless.
