The one where I vent about Apple

Ok, so if you’re not an IT person this post is probably boring.  Even if you are an IT person, you’ll probably think it boring.  I just have to rant and rave a little bit because I’m not the biggest fan of Microsoft.  I have been ready, for quite a bit of time now, to switch back to Apple.  My very first computer, in the 5th grade, was an Apple II GS.  It was that fantastic contraption where the floppy drive (literally … remember the big, truly floppy disks?) and speakers were all built into the keyboard.  The whole keyboard/floppy drive/speaker contraption had a handle for easy carrying.  Did the designers actually think that many people would be walking down the street, casually toting their keyboard/floppy drive/speaker contraption?  I see the argument for modularity … after all you can always borrow a monitor, right?  But come on now …. who’s really going to transport their keyboard/floppy drive/speaker contraption on a regular basis.  I digress…..

So, I’m ready to once again become an Apple supporter.  I’d love to get a Mac, especially an oh-so-thin Macbook Air!!!  So, I thought a great reason to justify the purchase of a Macbook Air would be to develop applications for the IPhone.  All excited and proud for thinking of such a great idea, I joined the IDeveloper program just to be told ….

“Thank you for applying to the iPhone Developer Program. We have many more requests than we can serve during this initial beta period, so we must limit the Program at this time. We plan to expand it during the beta period, and we will contact you regarding your enrollment status at the appropriate time. We appreciate your patience.”

In the meantime, I keep getting emails telling me to download the new SDK … keep developing IPhone applications … have faith that one day,  I might … just might … receive the infamous developer certificate that will allow me to actually sell my creations.  It feels like my real-life version of hoping and praying for a Golden Ticket if I buy enough Wonka bars.  So alas, here I sit and wait for my precious developers certificate.  Sorry Apple, it’s all feeling a little too Big Brother”ish” … a little too Microsoft for me.  Although my dear friend, Mr. Jobs, I can guarantee that you’ll sell another Macbook the same day I receive my certificate.  Coincidence?  I think not.
